Who is Chaeryeong (ITZY)?
Lee Chaeryeong was born in Yongin, South Korea, on 5 June 2001 – her zodiac sign is Gemini and she holds South Korean nationality. She is a singer, rapper and a dancer, best known for being a member of the South Korean girl group ITZY.

Childhood and sister Chaeyeon
Chaeryeong was raised alongside her younger sister Chaemin, and her older sister Chaeyeon who is also a singer and is currently a member of the girl group IZONE, and was once signed to JYP Entertainment.
Chaeryeong is very secretive when it comes to her parents, but it is known that she grew up in a middle-class family in Yongin and that her parents spent most of their time working, thus Chaeryeong spent most of her time with her sisters and their babysitter.
She became interested in dancing while attending elementary school, and her parents enrolled her at Kyw Dance School which she attended before she moved to Hanlim Multi Art School, at which she practiced both her acting and singing skills. She was 13 when she was noticed by a scout working at JYP Entertainment, and after she attended her first audition she became a JYP trainee, launching her singing career in February 2019 when she became a member of JYP’s girl group ITZY.
Career as a singer and her band ITZY
Chaeryeong entered the South Korean reality TV competition show “K-pop Star 3” in 2013, while she also competed in the reality girl group survival program “Sixteen”, created by JYP Entertainment in 2015, but wasn’t chosen to become a member of the winning girl group Twice.
It was announced by JYP on 21 January that they were launching a new girl group – ITZY (their first after launching Twice in 2015) – and that the group would be made up of five members – Chaeryeong, Yeji, Ryujin, Lia and Yuna. The girls’ first album was released on 12 February entitled “It’z Different”, and the song “Dalla Dalla” became its lead single.
The audience praised their songs for their lyrics and for their music, which is a combination of bass house and future house; “Dalla Dalla” reached #2 on the World Digital Song Sales Chart, while it gathered over 17 million views on YouTube in its first 24 hours on the platform – their second song on the album “Want It?” was also successful, as it reached #8 on the same chart.
The girls’ debut extended play (EP) “It’z Icy” came out on 29 July 2019, with its lead single “Icy”, and in September, JYP Entertainment announced that ITZY was going on a tour around the world starting in Jakarta on 2 November, and heading to the US at the beginning of 2020; the American part of their tour started in Los Angeles, California on 17 January.
On 9 March, their second extended play “It’z Me” came out, with “Wannabe” as its lead single – the EP reached #1 on the Gaon Album Chart, and it also reached #5 on the Billboard World Album Chart.
In November 2019, “Dalla Dalla” became platinum certified after streaming 100 million times on the Gaon Music Chart, and it has to this day remained their best song. It is the first song by a K-pop group to win a platinum certification since it was inducted in April 2018, and the British style magazine “Dazed” has ranked it #8 on their list of “The 20 Best K-pop Songs of 2019” while it also peaked at #2 on the list of the most popular South Korean songs on YouTube.
Thanks to “Dalla Dalla”, ITZY won a couple of Best New Female Artist Awards, as well as a Melon Music Award and a Mnet Asian Music Award.
Love life and boyfriend
Chaeryeong hasn’t talked about any boys she might have dated, and it is widely believed that this is because JYP Entertainment has banned its artists from dating as it might have a negative influence on their groups and their reputation. However, this doesn’t mean that Chaeryeong is not seeing anybody, as she might be very good at hiding a relationship. JYP Entertainment has also banned its artists from doing a variety of other things, such as drinking, partying and smoking among others.
Another rumor has it that Chaeryeong was once in a relationship with her high school boyfriend, and that the two were together for a year, but had to split after she was invited to become a member of ITZY – although she had a choice, Chaeryeong chose to leave the boy and focus on her career.
Surgery
There are rumors on the internet about Chaeryeong having undergone plastic surgery, rumors which she hasn’t addressed. According to many, Chaeryeong wasn’t as pretty before joining ITZY as she is today, which is believed to be the result of plastic surgery, however, it is widely known that JYP Entertainment doesn’t allow their rookie artists to undergo plastic surgery, and it appears as Chaeryeong is all natural.
Interests and hobbies
Chaeryeong is very passionate about travelling, and has been to many Asian countries including Japan, which she visited after she won a trip there as a JYP trainee – she is also interested in dance, and while in Japan she was learning how to dance jazz.
Chaeryeong is easily scared and doesn’t like horror movies nor scary attractions at adventure parks. She has stated how one of her favorite hobbies is watching movies with romantic comedies being her favorites, and her favorite actresses are Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock, while some of her favorite movies include “Runaway Bride”, “Notting Hill” and “The Proposal”.
She is also keen on tasting various cuisines, and Chaeryeong likes to sleep a lot because she is very active during the day, and is nearly always already exhausted in the evenings.
She likes to listen to American music, and her favorite song is “Because of You” performed by Ne-Yo, while some of the other musicians and bands she enjoys listening to include Eminem, Rihanna and The Weeknd.

Chaeryeong’s age is 19. She has long brown hair and brown eyes, while her height is 5ft 5ins (1.66m) and she weighs around 100lbs (46kgs). As of July 2020, Chaeryeong’s net worth has been estimated at around $1 million.
