SAAY (EvoL) Bio

Kwon ‘SAAY’ Sohee was born in Busan, South Korea, on 13 April 1993 – her zodiac sign is Aries, and she holds South Korean nationality. SAAY is a singer, songwriter and a model, probably still best known for having been a member of the girl group EvoL.

Early life, family and education

SAAY was raised an only child in Busan by her father, who is a businessman, and her mother who is working at a local company as an accountant.

SAAY became interested in acting at a very early age, as she would often watch movies on TV with her mother, however, while attending elementary school, one of her peers heard her sing, and convinced her that she could become a singer. She attended a local high school at which she was focused on practicing her acting and singing skills, while she was also physically active, as she played several sports including soccer, tennis and badminton. Upon matriculation in 2011, SAAY chose not to pursue a college degree but to rather focus on her career as a singer.

Career as a singer and the band EvoL

The South Korean record producer and rapper Cho Joong-hoon, announced in March 2012 that he would form a new girl group called EvoL. Most of the girls chosen as members of EvoL were already in the entertainment industry, as Say and J-da could have been seen in the music video “NanlinA” by Block B, while Song Kwanghee and Lee Dasom were members of the girl group Tahiti. Jucy, known as Juni.J, was a rapper, who had already released several solo songs.

The girls debuted on 10 August 2012 with the release of their extended play (EP) “Let Me Explode!”, made up of five songs, while they also released the music video for their single “We Are A Bit Different”.

They were invited to perform in the show “M Countdown” on 16 August, but then stayed away from the spotlight until 13 December, when the girls uploaded a picture onto their Twitter account with the caption reading ‘It’s New EVOL! Guyz how do u do~we miss u so so much..Thanks 4 waiting us. We’ll meet u r expectation soon’.

On 18 March 2013, the girls released several new songs which were part of their EP “Second Evolution”, released two days later. Jucy continued her solo career, as she released her mixtape in July 2013, and then competed in the reality TV show “Show Me The Money”, but was eliminated at the very start.

The girls didn’t perform until August 2015, and when rumors started circulating around the internet about EvoL’s disbandment, it was revealed that three members Yull, J-Da and Hayana had left EvoL which actually led to the disbandment of the group.

SAAY announced in March 2015 that she would start a solo project – “$aay Choreography”, and on 28 July 2017 launched her solo singing career, choosing the name ‘SAAY’ and releasing her debut digital single “Circle”, followed by her second single “THE ZONE” In May 2018 she released her debut solo album “CLAASSIC”, which was followed by her mixtape “Horizon: The Mixtape”.

She has recently released three singles “ZGZG” in 2019, “Winter” in 2020 and “Don’t Know” in 2020, as well featuring in several songs of other performers, such as “Winter Blossom” by Punchnello and “L.A.Y.E.R.E.D” by Ravi both in 2019, as well as “Gimme That” by CHAI in 2020. SAAY also sang the original soundtrack “Nobody Knows OST Part.2” in 2020, and has released two songs in English – “Cold View” and “I’m Okay” in 2020.

Love life and boyfriend

SAAY hasn’t commented on any boys she might have dated, but there have been many rumors circulating the internet regarding those she might have been with since the launch of her singing career.

There are also rumors claiming that SAAY is a lesbian, because she is a big supporter of the LGBT community, and this combined with the fact that she hasn’t talked about any men has led a lot of people to believe that she is either lesbian or bisexual. Some have even claimed to have seen SAAY being rather too close to a girl at a party in Seoul, and that they were also seen kissing – SAAY hasn’t commented on this and her sexuality and her dating history remains a mystery.

Hobbies and other interests

SAAY likes to listen to metal bands, and her favorite is Megadeth; she is also keen on J-ROCK bands, with her favorite being X-Japan.

She is a huge lover of clothes and is a bit of shopaholic, as she goes shopping for clothes at least once a week – she has recently launched her own clothing brand called “SLAAY”.

She likes animals, and her family had two pet dogs while she was growing up, but she doesn’t have any pets today as she believes she doesn’t have enough free time to take proper care of it.

Late at night, SAAY likes to watch romantic Hollywood movies, and some of her favorite actors and actresses are Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Natalie Portman, while some of her favorite movies are “Titanic”, “Good Will Hunting” and “Inception”.
