Who is Baek Yerin?
Baek Ye-rin was born in Daejeon, South Korea on 26 June 1997 – her zodiac sign is Cancer and she holds South Korean nationality. She is a singer and a songwriter, probably best known for forming the South Korean duo 15& together with Park Ji-min in 2012, while the two stopped creating music and performing in February 2015.

Early life, family and education
Yerin was raised as an only child in the Jung District of South Korea, by her father who is a holder of a Master’s degree and her mother who has also finished college.
The family moved to New York City USA in 2007, when Yerin signed a contract with JYP Entertainment and they stayed there for two years before returning to Daejeon. Yerin attended Hanlim Multi Art School where she was practicing her singing skills while she was also learning to play the guitar and the piano, amongst several other instruments, and she also trained in acting. She matriculated in February 2016 together with Park Ji-min (15&) and Kim Yu-gyeom, who is a member of the South Korean boy band GOT7. Since matriculation, Yerin has been focused on her career as a musician, and it doesn’t appear as though she will be pursuing a college degree.
Career as a singer
In 2007 Yerin was invited to compete in the South Korean TV show “Amazing Contest Star King”, in which she sang Beyonce’s song “Listen”, and was given the title of ‘contemporary R&B genius” – after this success, she decided to attend one of JYP Entertainment’s auditions performing “Listen” once again, finishing second behind Jang Woo-young who is today a member of the South Korean boy band 2PM.
It was announced by JYP Entertainment on 27 September 2012 that Yerin and Park Ji-min would unite to found the duo 15&, making their debut appearance on 7 October in the South Korean music program “Inkigayo” – on the same day, they released their debut song “I Dream”.
They performed together until February 2015, and after four years of not making music, they disbanded when Park left JYP Entertainment.
Yerin launched her solo career in November 2015 when she released her debut extended play (EP) “Frank”, with its lead song being “Across the Universe” – the lyrics for “Across the Universe” were inspired by one of Yerin’s favorite movies, “The Martian”, while the name of her EP was inspired by Amy Winehouse’s debut album of the same title. Yerin’s debut digital single came out on 20 June 2016, entitled “Bye Bye My Blue”, while her second digital single “Love You on Christmas” was released on 7 December.
After she attracted attention and became somewhat popular in South Korea, she started performing her unreleased songs as well as covers at festivals, then in 2018 she created the band The Volunteers together with the rock band Bye Bye Badman, and they released their English language EP “Vanity & People” shortly afterwards. On 18 March 2019, Yerin’s second EP “Our Love Is Great” came out, and in only a day the EP’s lead track “Maybe It’s Not Our Fault” topped eight South Korean realtime charts.
Her contract with JYP Entertainment expired on 13 September 2019, and she then created her own record label, Blue Vinyl, on 6 November, releasing her debut single under it on 22 November, entitled “Popo (How Deep Is Your Love)”.
On 10 December 2019, her double album entitled “Every Letter I Sent You” came out, consisting of 18 songs, 17 of which were written in English – her new English song “Square (2017)” followed shortly after, making Yerin the first South Korean singer to top several charts with a song written in the English language. “Square (2017)” became something they call “all kill” in South Korea, meaning it topped both daily and realtime charts of the peer-to-peer file-sharing service Soribada, the IT company Bugs, the music production and distribution company Genie Music, and the music store and music streaming service Melon, while it also topped the real-time charts of iChart and Flo.
In 2020 Yerin won Album of the Year (Daesang) at the Korean Music Awards, and a Best Pop Record Award for “Our Love Is Great”, as well as a Best Pop Song Award for “Maybe It’s Not Out Fault”. Overall she has been nominated for two Gaon Chart Music Awards, four Genie Music Awards, three Melon Music Awards, and 10 Seoul Music Awards.
Love life and boyfriend
In 2015, Yerin began collaborating with Go Hyung ‘Cloud’ Suk, who is a singer and a music producer, and in 2017 “Soompi” reported that the two were dating, as they’d developed feelings for each other. They were seen spending time together in restaurants and taking walks on multiple occasions, but although many of their fans asked Go and Yerin on their social media networks about whether or not they were really dating, neither Yerin nor Go gave any clear answers.
It is widely believed that Yerin and Go broke-up sometime in 2018, as they weren’t seen together by their fans after July that year.
There is a rumor circulating the internet that Yerin was in a relationship with her high school sweetheart in 2013, and that it lasted for a year before they broke-up for unknown reasons. As of July 2020, Yerin is single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
Tattoo, interests and hobbies
Yerin likes to taste various cuisines, with her favorite being Italian as her favorite food is pasta, and this ‘hobby’ of hers works well with her love for travelling, as she has been to many European, Asian and American countries, and so has had an opportunity to taste numerous cuisines.
She is keen on listening to American music, and her favorite performer is Amy Winehouse and her song “You Sent Me Flying” – Amy became her role model after Yerin watched her documentary film, and realized that she was very self-confident which Yerin believes she is not, and does want to become. Yerin also likes to watch movies, and her favorite actor and actress are Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway and their movies “Good Will Hunting” and “One Day”.
She is physically active as she plays a variety of sports, including soccer and badminton, while she also likes to take long walks and go running and cycling.
Yerin is a fan of tattoos and has multiple inked onto her arms.
