Early life and education
Onda was raised an only child in Seoul by her father who is running a small grocery store, and her mother who is working as a nurse at a local hospital. Onda spent most of her free time as a child in front of her TV, watching K-pop groups perform and dreaming about becoming a singer.
Her mother found her a music teacher while she was attending fifth grade, and upon completing her elementary education, Onda enrolled at a school for the performing arts, where she further improved her vocal skills and practiced rapping, dancing and acting. She matriculated from high school in 2018 and then chose to focus on her singing career and the group Everglow, rather than pursue a college degree.
Career as a singer and her group Everglow
Onda came under the spotlight when she joined the survival show “Idol School” in 2017, launched to select the girls who would form a new girl group.
However, she placed only 40th among nearly 100 girls, and didn’t make it into the new group, but got to sign a contract with Stone Music Entertainment, where she stayed as a trainee for the next year before signing a contract with Yuehua Entertainment.
It was announced by Yuehua on 17 February 2019, that it would be launching the new girl group Everglow made up of six girls: Onda, Yiren, Aisha, Mia, Sihyeon and E:U. Most of the girls were already active in the music industry – Sihyeon competed in the reality TV show “Produce 101” back in 2016 as well as in “Produce 48” in 2017, together with Yiren.
Everglow’s official Instagram account was opened on 18 February 2019, and its fan club was created on the same day. The girls debuted on 18 March 2019 with the release of their single album “Arrival of Everglow” and its lead track “Bon Bon Chocolat”, written by the girls and Melanie Fontana, an American artist currently signed to Universal, who has in the past written songs for groups such as BTS and singers such as Tiffany Young. Everglow sang live for the first time on 21 March, when they competed in the music show “M Countdown”, and after their debut performance, their debut album went on to peak at #6 on the Gaon Albums Chart while its lead song reached at #5 on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart.
Their second single album came out on 19 August 2019 entitled “Hush”, with the song “Adios” as its lead track, and with it, the girls won their first music show on 24 September when they competed in “The Show”.
Their debut extended play (EP) came out on 3 February 2020, entitled “Reminiscence” with the song “Dun Dun” as its lead track and which peaked at #63 on the Component Download Chart, while the EP climbed to #4 on the Gaon Albums Chart. The girls were supposed to embark on their first tour on 6 March 2020 to perform in Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Jersey City and Chicago in the USA, however, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the tour had to be cancelled.
Love life and relationships
Onda hasn’t talked about any boys she might have dated, and it’s widely known that her agency has put a dating ban on her as well as on the other Everglow girls – breaking this rule would most likely mean one’s removal from the group. There are still rumors circulating the internet that Onda was once in a relationship with her high school sweetheart, and that they were together for around a year when they matriculated – according to these rumors, they continued to date until Onda debuted with Everglow, and she then broke up with the boy.
It is believed by some that the two didn’t really break-up but continued dating in secret, because of Onda’s agency – Onda hasn’t commented on the rumors.
As of August 2020, she is single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
Hobbies and other interests
One of Onda’s main hobbies is taking selfies, and she’s uploaded numbers of these onto her Instagram account.
She likes to listen to both Korean and American music, and her two favorite singers are Taeyeon from the girl group SNSD and Ariana Grande.
Onda is keen on watching movies in her spare time, and her favorite actor and actress are Daniel Radcliffe and Kristen Stewart, while some of her favorite movies are the franchise “Harry Potter”, the trilogy “Twilight” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.
Summer is her favorite season as she enjoys swimming in the ocean and sun tanning her skin, while she generally dislikes cold weather. She is a lover of animals, with her favorites being cats.
Onda is following a strict diet plan just as her friends from Everglow, and she has several training sessions at the gym and occasionally plays badminton and tennis.

Onda’s age is 20. She has long brown hair and her eyes are brown as well, her height is 5ft 5ins (1.65m) and she weighs around 92lbs (42kgs).
