Before IZONE debuted
The group’s name was chosen by their fans on the internet – ‘Iz’ stands for its 12 members while ‘One’ stands for them being united in a group. The sign ‘*’ between the two words represents the zodiac signs.
On 15 June, the show “Produce 48” began airing on “Mnet” and there were 96 contestants who competed for a spot in the new group to be launched by Pledis Entertainment – the show ended on 31 August 2018 when 12 girls were chosen. Prior to the launch of Iz*One, many of the girls were already active in the music and film industries. Hitomi Honda was a member of the Japanese idol group AKB48, Sakura Miyawaki was an actress who starred in the musical “The Lion King”, and Nako Yabuki appeared in the movie “Touch” as well as in several Japanese series and ads. Kwon Eunbi was a member of the girl group Ye-A, and Yuri competed in the music show “Idol School”, finishing in 15th place.
An Yujin was also an actress who gained recognition after she appeared in a commercial for Acuvue Vita.
Career as a singer and the group IZONE
It was announced in September 2018 that Off the Record would be Iz*One’s new managing agency, after they took over from Pledis Entertainment and Stone Music.
The girls debuted on 29 October 2018 with the release of their extended play (EP) “Color*Iz”, while the song “La Vie en Rose” was the lead single – to promote the EP, the girls held a showcase concert at Seoul’s Olympic Hall called “Color*Iz Show-Con” – reputedly it took just one minute for the tickets to be sold out. On 8 November, the girls won the music show “M Countdown”, becoming the fastest girl group to achieve a show victory, as this was only 10 days after they debuted.
Iz*One broke several other records, including the highest number of debut EP copies sold, around 35,000 in 24 hours after it’s release, and their music video “La Vie en Rose” became the most-watched debut song of a South Korean group on YouTube, seen around 4.5 million times in 24 hours after it was uploaded. “Color*Iz” reached #2 on the Gaon Album Chart, and it won the girls three New Artist of the Year awards at Golden Disc, Mnet Asian Music and Seoul Music Awards. To mark the end of the year 2018, Iz*One sang at the 2018 FNS Music Festival held in Japan on 5 December, also marking their first performance overseas – just a day later, they signed with Japanese EMI Records, so that they could work on their new Japanese material.
On 20 January 2019, Iz*One sang their new Japanese song “Suki to Iwasetai” at the Tokyo Dome City Hall, and the single reached #2 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and the Oricon Singles Chart, also becoming the first Iz*One song to become certified platinum, on 8 March. Their second EP “Heart*Iz” with its lead single “Violeta” came out on 1 April, and immediately reached the top spot on both the Oricon Overseas Album Chart and the Gaon Album Chart, while it took half a year to become certified platinum. The single “Violeta” was also a success, reaching #18 on the Gaon Digital Chart, and #5 on the Billboard K-pop Hot 100, plus on 9 April the girls won the music program “The Show” with the song.
On 7 June, they embarked on their first tour, during which two of their new songs entitled “So Curious” and “Ayayaya” were released. They sang at KCON in New York City, USA on 6 July, meantime Iz*One’s new Japanese song “Buenos Aires” went on to top both the Billboard Japan Hot 100, and the Oricon Singles Charts, and was certified platinum in only a month. The girls’ third Japanese song “Vampire” came out on 25 September, topping the charts once again. At the end of 2019, the girls were invited to participate in the semi-annual fashion festival Tokyo Girls Collection.

Problems started for Iz*One in November 2019, when it was revealed by Ahn Joon-young, producer of the show “Produce 48”, that the members of Iz*One had been chosen before the final voting was finished – due to this, all the girls’ activities were either postponed or cancelled until the situation was clarified on 6 January 2020.
Iz*One’s debut full-length album entitled “Bloom*Iz” was released on 17 February 2020, and in only seven days it sold more than 350,000 copies. Most recently, on 15 June the girls released their new EP, “Oneiric Diary”.
Since the group debuted, the girls have collaborated with many fashion brands, including Skoolooks and Overhit, and have also been featured in a number of magazines including “Non-no”.

Yuri hasn’t commented on any boys she might have dated since she debuted with Iz*One. and while many people believe that she is still too young and hasn’t been in any relationships so far, others believe that this might be because her agency has put a dating ban on her as well as the other Iz*One girls, and that if Yuri starts dating someone publicly, she might be removed from the group.
There are rumors circulating the internet that she was in a relationship for several months in 2018 while still attending high school, but that the two broke up because she didn’t want to mess up her career, however, Yuri hasn’t commented on this.
