Shin Yuna (ITZY) Bio
Shin Yuna was born in Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea, on 9 December 2003 – her zodiac sign is Sagittarius and she holds South Korean nationality. She is a singer and a rapper, best known for being a member of the girl group ITZY.
Childhood and family
Yuna was raised in South Korea as an only child, by her father who is a psychologist and her mother who is working as a nurse at a local hospital.
Yuna grew up being interested in dance, and attended Hanlim Multi Art School’s Department of Practical Dance.
She also became interested in playing floorball when she was around 11 years old, and practiced it for the following four years, and competed in a variety of tournaments and championships – at Kyeonggido High School Sportsclub Championship, she was named The Best Player of the Match.
She was noticed by a scout while she was attending her junior year at high school, and was invited to attend a singing audition which eventually led to the launch of her career. Yuna is currently attending her third year of high school, and unsurprisingly will not be enrolling at a college afterwards.
Career as a singer and the band ITZY
Yuna was first noticed on TV in 2017, when she competed alongside Jungkook in the BTS’s show “Highlight Reel”. In 2019, the TC Candler put Yuna in 68th place on their “100 Most Beautiful Faces 2019” list.
JYP Entertainment announced on 21 January 2019 that they would be creating their first girl group since Twice debuted in 2015, and that it would be called ITZY, made up of Yuna, Lia, Chaeryeong, Yeji and Ryujin. Their debut album was released on 12 February called “It’z Different”, with the song “Dalla Dalla” as its lead single – the song became popular worldwide, combining elements of future and bass house, and has strong lyrics.
“Dalla Dalla” reached #2 on the World Digital Song Sales Chart and it was bought over 2,000 times on the internet which made it the best-selling K-pop song in the USA during that week. In only 24 hours after the song was uploaded on YouTube, it was viewed over 17.1 million times, which made it the most viewed debut song of a K-pop group and eventually, the song became the fastest in the history of K-pop to gather 100 million views. It was also streamed on the Gaon Music Chart over 100 million times by November 2019, which won ITZY their first platinum certification, and making it the first debut song to win it since the system was introduced in April 2019. The British magazine ranked “Dalla Dalla” #8 on their list “The 20 Best K-pop Songs of 2019”.
ITZY’s song “Want It?” was released alongside “Dalla Dalla”, and it sold 1,000 digital copies on the internet. After their starting success, the girls were invited to compete in the show “M Countdown”, winning it thus becoming the girl group to win such a show in the shortest time. On 29 July 2019, the girls released their debut extended play (EP) “It’z Icy” with the song “Icy” as the lead song, and on 22 September announced that they were touring around the world with the showcase being called “Itzy? Itzy!” They started the tour in Jakarta, Indonesia and continued around Asia before going to the US in January 2020 – while touring, the girls won a Melon Music Award and a Mnet Asian Music Award.
Their American tour started on 17 January 2020 when they performed in Los Angeles, California. Their second extended play “It’z Me” came out on 9 March 2020 with the song “Wannabe” as the lead single, and “reached #1 on South Korea Gaon Album Chart, while it also peaked at #5 on Billboard World Albums Chart.
ITZY was invited to appear in a variety of reality TV shows. They made their debut appearance in the show “Itzy? Itzy!” on 20 February 2019, which aired on networks Naver TV Cast and V Live as well as on YouTube, and later that year they appeared in “I See Itzy” on 7 August, “A to Z <M2 Special – Itzy Vlog> “Itzy in Paris” on 14 November and “Itzy It’z Tourbook” on 13 December. On 21 January 2020, the girls appeared in “100 Hours of Romantic Travel “Paris Et Itzy” which aired on M2.
Love life and boyfriend
It is widely believed that Yuna is still too young to be dating, and that she hasn’t been in any relationships so far, perhaps waiting for the right boy for her to show up. It is also known that JYP Entertainment doesn’t allow its singers to date, which is probably why Yuna hasn’t talked about any boys she might have dated, and won’t be talking about them as that could mark the end of her trip with ITZY. The girls from the group ITZY also aren’t allowed to party, drink or smoke cigarettes – it’s also believed that they aren’t allowed to have plastic surgery.
Some fans say that Yuna has a crush on Hoseok, who is a member of the South Korean group BTS and also a solo singer.
Koreaboo reported that Hoseok and Yuna were seen together on multiple occasions, and that he ‘gave Yuna a backride’, which made many of his fans jealous.
