Jo Yuri was born in Busan, South Korea, on 22 October 2001 – her zodiac sign is Libra and she has South Korean nationality. She is a singer and a dancer, perhaps best known for being a member of the girl group Iz*One.
Childhood and education
Yuri was raised alongside her four-year younger sister in Busan by their father who is a car mechanic, and their mother who is working as a nurse at a local hospital.
Yuri grew up wanting to become a singer, as she and her sister spent a lot of time in front of their TV watching K-pop groups perform.
While attending elementary school, Yuri simultaneously attended a school of the performing arts, at which she learned how to sing and dance as well as how to play the drums, the piano and the guitar. She became physically active at high school, playing sports such as soccer and tennis. She has matriculated just recently, in February 2020.
Yuri isn’t planning to pursue a college degree, but will focus on music and her group Iz*One.
Before IZONE debuted
The group’s name was chosen by their fans on the internet – ‘Iz’ stands for its 12 members while ‘One’ stands for them being united in a group. The sign ‘*’ between the two words represents the zodiac signs.
On 15 June, the show “Produce 48” began airing on “Mnet” and there were 96 contestants who competed for a spot in the new group to be launched by Pledis Entertainment – the show ended on 31 August 2018 when 12 girls were chosen. Prior to the launch of Iz*One, many of the girls were already active in the music and film industries. Hitomi Honda was a member of the Japanese idol group AKB48, Sakura Miyawaki was an actress who starred in the musical “The Lion King”, and Nako Yabuki appeared in the movie “Touch” as well as in several Japanese series and ads. Kwon Eunbi was a member of the girl group Ye-A, and Yuri competed in the music show “Idol School”, finishing in 15th place.
An Yujin was also an actress who gained recognition after she appeared in a commercial for Acuvue Vita.

On 8 November, the girls won the music show “M Countdown”, becoming the fastest girl group to achieve a show victory, as this was only 10 days after they debuted.

Problems started for Iz*One in November 2019, when it was revealed by Ahn Joon-young, producer of the show “Produce 48”, that the members of Iz*One had been chosen before the final voting was finished – due to this, all the girls’ activities were either postponed or cancelled until the situation was clarified on 6 January 2020.
Iz*One’s debut full-length album entitled “Bloom*Iz” was released on 17 February 2020, and in only seven days it sold more than 350,000 copies. Most recently, on 15 June the girls released their new EP, “Oneiric Diary”.
