Giriboy biography
Hong ‘Giriboy’ Si-young was born in Seoul, South Korea on 24 January 1991 – his zodiac sign is Aquarius and he holds South Korean nationality. He is a singer, rapper, and a record producer, best known for his singing career, which he launched in 2011 when he signed a contract with Just Music.

Childhood and family
Giriboy was raised an only child in Seoul by his father who was a construction worker, and his mother who was a nurse working at a hospital in Seoul.
Giriboy became interested in music at the age of four, when he started watching music shows on TV with his mother, and it was shortly afterwards that his parents noticed his talent, and thus enrolled him at a school for the performing arts.
Giriboy was quite active while attending high school, as he started playing basketball, eventually finding himself in the school’s team. After matriculation in 2009, he enrolled at Kukje International College of Arts in South Korea, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2013.
Career as a singer
His music career was launched in 2011 with the release of his single “You Look So Good to Me”, and on 19 June 2012 his debut extended play (EP) “Fatal Album” came out, followed by his second EP – “Fatal Album II” – on 4 December of the same year.
Giriboy’s debut full-length studio album – “Sensual Album” – came out on 20 January 2014, followed by his second album “Sexual Perceptions” on 17 March 2015, which peaked at #10 on the Gaon Music Chart. He went on to release his third EP on 1 September 2015 entitled “Lonely 4Songs”, while his third album “Mechanical Album” was released on 31 May 2016, and reached #13 on the Gaon Music Chart. The year 2017 saw the release of his new EP “5 Songs For Initiation”, and his fifth album “Graduation”, which reached #35 on Gaon Music Chart, but is the least downloaded album of all his albums and EPs.
His fifth extended play – “Hightechnology: 3Songs & Instrumentals” – came out on 30 August 2018, reaching #27 on Gaon Music Chart, and has to this day remained his only EP to enter the chart – in September, his album “Science Fiction Music” came out peaking at #8 on the chart, and on 28 December his sixth EP “Thank You” was released.
Giriboy released his seventh EP – “KGVOVC from wybh vol. 1” – on 24 January 2019 which attracted mixed reviews, and his sixth album followed on 10 June entitled “100 Years College Course”. His latest EP entitled “Suddenly The Atmosphere Is Giriboy” came out on 2 August 2019, and was followed by his latest full-length album “Fatal Album III” on 2 November 2019, which reached #16 on Gaon Music Chart.
He has collaborated with various other musicians, making his debut in 2012 called “Let’s Have a Drink” with Lil Boi. He worked with many artists in 2014, some of whom are C Jamm (song “Rain Showers”), NS Yoon-G (song “Fluttering Feelings”) and Swings and Genius Nochang (song “Hongkiyoung #2”). In the following years, Giriboy worked with Moonshine on “Chiche”, Xitsuh and Young B on “Bunzi”, and Goretexx and Ha Yo-han on “Gu”.
Girlboy won his so far only award in 2019 – Producer of the Year at Korean Hip-hop Awards, while he was also nominated for an Artist of the Year Award.
For the song “Flex” on which he worked with Swings, Kid Milli and No:EL, the four were nominated for Hip Hop Track of the Year, Music Video of the Year and Collaboration of the Year at Korean Hip-hop Awards as well.
Appearing in TV shows
In 2014, Giriboy was invited to compete in the South Korean rap competition show “Show Me The Money 3”, which aired on Mnet, and in 2017 he was invited to be a judge together with Seo ChulGu in the South Korean survival hip-hop show “High School Rapper”. In 2018, he was one of the judges in “Show Me The Money 777”, while the year 2019 saw him judge “High School Rapper 3” with Kid Milli.
Giriboy’s latest appearance in a TV show was in the second half of 2019, when he was a judge together with BGM-v crew in “Show Me the Money 8”.
Love life and girlfriend
Giriboy is very secretive when it comes to his love life as a huge majority of his fans are girls and he doesn’t want to risk losing his fans because he has a girlfriend, however, it is known that he was in 2015 in a relationship with a girl known as Sunny Choi. Giriboy uploaded pictures of the two of them together onto his Instagram account, and when people began asking him whether or not they were dating, he replied that he and Sunny were only good friends, although they were later seen holding hands and kissing in public. By June 2016, Sunny and Giriboy had broken-up for unknown reasons, and Giriboy wasn’t seen with her again.
As of July 2020, Giriboy is single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
Hobbies and interests
Giriboy is a huge lover of animals, with his favorites being dogs – he has a pet Maltese dog which can often be seen featured in the pictures Giriboy uploads onto his Instagram account.
He is sporting as he often goes for a run – his favorite running shoes are his Nikes – and he is also keen on playing a variety of sports such as soccer, basketball and tennis among others.
One of his main hobbies is travelling and he has been to each continent at least once for both work and pleasure; some of the countries he has visited in Europe include France, Italy and England.
Giriboy likes to watch movies late at night, and his favorite Hollywood actor and actress are Robert Downey Jr. because of his life story, and Angelina Jolie because of her philanthropy work. Some of his favorite movies are “Iron Man”, “The Avengers” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life”.

Giriboy’s age is 29. He has short black hair and his eyes are brown, while he is 5ft 10ins (1.78m) tall and weighs around 132lbs (60kgs). As of July 2020, his net worth has been estimated at over $5 million.
