Early life and education

Lee was abandoned at birth, and spent seven years without a family before he was adopted and raised in Incheon by a couple– he has two biological brothers who are both around 16 years older than him.

He became interested in music while attending elementary school, and as his adoptive parents decided to do whatever it takes to make him happy, they enrolled him at a local school of the performing arts, at which he practiced singing, dancing and acting.

After completing his elementary education, he enrolled at Incheon High School, where he became a member of his first boy group, but it only lasted for less than a year. He matriculated in 2017 and then focused on singing and later on his band X1 rather than pursuing a college degree.

Career as a singer and his band X1

Before the launch of X1, many of the boys were already musicians, including Cho Seung-youn who was a member of the Chinese-South Korean boy group in 2014. In 2016, Cho launched his solo career under the name Luizy, and then in 2018 changed it to WOODZ. Kim Woo-seok was a member of the South Korean boy group UP10TION, while Han Seung-woo was singing in the South Korean boy group Victon.

Lee Han-gyul was a member of the ballad group IM, while Kang Minhee was featured in the music video “Thirst”, by Ailee and Mad Clown.

On 3 May 2019, the reality competition show “Produce X 101” began airing on Mnet, with the goal of finding 11 boys who would become members of the boy group X1 – the name was chosen by the people on the internet as well as by the South Korean entertainment and mass media firm CJ ENM, and it stands for the number 11 in Roman numbers, while it also stands for that one boy who has been ranked ‘X’ in the show “Produce X 101”.

A total of 101 boys competed, with 10 of them being chosen, plus one chosen from those who had lost during the show. On 19 July 2019, the final 11 members were announced in the final episode of the show.

Even though the members of X1 were officially announced, problems began right away after it was rumored that there was voting manipulation in the show “Produce X 101”, which led to all of X1’s activities being either cancelled or put on hold. Although there were many agencies which decided not to sign with X1, they still proceeded to launch their own reality show on 22 August 2019 – entitled “X1 Flash”, the show follows the private lives of each member.

They made their debut performance at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on 27 August 2019, which was the same day that their debut album “Emergency: Quantum Leap”, was released with its lead song “Flash”. The boys won their first show – “The Show” – on 3 September, and went on to win 10 other shows with their song “Flash”.

X1 faced more problems, when the producer of the show “Produce X 101” was arrested and admitted that the boys for the group X1 were already chosen before the show ended – in December, CJ ENM and the group’s members held several meetings to discuss the future of the group.

The final meeting was held on 6 January 2020 and was attended by nine agencies, while the boys from X1 were not allowed to attend – after an hour of discussion, it was decided that the group would disband even though four agencies voted for them to continue performing, while four voted for the band to disband (one agency didn’t vote). It was suggested that the pre-recorded song be released as their goodbye song, as well as that the boys release a final video as a goodbye, however, both ideas were rejected by the majority of agencies.

Love life and girlfriend

Lee hasn’t talked about any girls he might have dated since he launched his singing career in 2019, but it was to be expected as the agencies of K-pop groups don’t usually allow their rookie artists to date, because this has always proven to have a negative effect on the groups’ popularity. However, a rumor has it that Lee was in a relationship with a girl, but that they split shortly before he was chosen as a member of X1 – according to these rumors, the two dated for around two years when Lee left her for his singing career.

It is also believed that he has recently met a new girl, and that they have been dating for nearly a month as several of his fans have claimed to have seen the two holding hands while walking in the streets of Seoul.

Hobbies and other interests

Lee is physically very active as he goes to the gym twice every week, and plays a variety of sports such as basketball and soccer – he has been taking Taekwondo lessons for around eight years now, and has also trained in karate. He is a not a big fan of summer because he doesn’t like sweating (he sweats more than other people), and doesn’t like spring either because he can’t stand bugs – he likes cold weather and is an avid skier.

Lee is keen on listening to Asian music more than American, and his favorite song is “In The Rain” sang by John Park. He also likes to watch superhero movies and his favorite is “The Avengers”, while his favorite actor is Robert Downey Jr.

He likes to taste various cuisines, and his favorite is Chinese, while he doesn’t eat spicy food.

Age, height, tattoo and net worth

Lee is 20 years old. He has short brown hair and brown eyes, his height is 5ft 9ins (1.76m) while he weighs around 152lbs (69kgs). Lee has two tattoos inked onto his back.

As of August 2020, his net worth is estimated at around $50,000.
