Early life, family and education
Dino was raised alongside his two-year junior brother in Iksan-si by their mother and father, who were both dancers when they were younger. Following in his parents’ footsteps, Dino began taking dancing lessons at the age of six, while he also practiced acting and singing.

He attended Sangbong Middle School where he played soccer for the school’s team, and then in accordance with his parents’ wishes, enrolled at Seoul Broadcasting High School. While there, he was a member of the school’s drama club and also played soccer and basketball, but wasn’t good enough to play for the school teams. Upon matriculation in February 2017, Dino didn’t enroll at a college but rather chose to focus on his career as a singer and a dancer.
Dino’s career and the band Seventeen
In 2013, the music show “Seventeen TV” began airing, created by Pledis Entertainment with the goal of finding members for the new boy group, Seventeen.
The show aired on UStream and counted several seasons, with most of these ending with ‘Like Seventeen Concerts’. The boys who were in the show also appeared in the reality program “Seventeen Project: Big Debut Plan”, which aired from 2 to 26 May 2016.
Seventeen made their debut performance in a live show aired on MBC on 26 May, which made them the first K-pop group to hold a one-hour live show on a channel as popular as MBC. On 29 May, their debut extended play (EP) came out entitled “17 Carat”, which became the #1 album to stay on the US charts for the longest period of time, and the only debut album to find itself on the Billboard 10 Best K-pop Albums of 2015 Chart.
Seventeen released their second EP on 10 September entitled “Boys Be” – it found its way onto the list 21 Under 21 2015: Music’s Hottest Young Stars, compiled by Billboard, and also won the boys Gaon Chart K-pop, Seoul Music and Golden Disk Awards. Starting on 24 December, they held their first tour “2015 Like Seventeen – Boys Wish” which ended on 26 December in Seoul.
Their debut full-length album came out on 25 April 2016, entitled “Love & Letter”, which entered the Gaon Music Chart while it also appeared on the Japanese Oricon Weekly Pop Album Chart. The boys performed the album’s lead song “Pretty U” in a music show, winning it thus marking their first show victory.
The repackaged version of their debut album came out on 4 July with the song “Very Nice” as its lead single – to promote the album, the boys went on their tour “1st Asia Tour 2016 Shining Diamonds”, performing in China, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea, then ended the year 2016 with the release of their EP “Going Seventeen” on 5 December.
On 15 February 2017, Seventeen started a tour of Japan called “17 Japan Concert: Say The Name #Seventeen” with all seven sold out dates, ending on 24 February. On 22 May, they released their fourth EP “Al1” which topped several charts in South Korea, and then in September the boys embarked on their first world tour called “2017 Seventeen 1st World Tour Diamond Edge” ending it on 6 October after having performed in several North American and Asian cities.
Their second full-length album “Teen, Age” came out on 6 November 2017.
On 5 February 2018, Seventeen released their debut special album “Director’s Cut” with its lead song “Thanks” – it topped the iTunes Chart in around 30 countries, and the magazine “Time” named Seventeen among the best K-pop groups of the year. On 30 May, the boys released their debut Japanese mini-album – “We Make You” – and on 16 July their next EP “You Make My Day” came out, their first to become certified platinum.
On 21 January 2019, their sixth EP “You Made My Dawn” was released, with its title song “Home”, and with it the boys won several music shows, including “Music Bank”, “M Countdown” and “Show! Music Core” among others, thus obtaining two ‘triple crowns’ and a ‘gland slam’.
Their debut Japanese single came out on 29 May entitled “Happy Ending”, topping the Oricon Daily Singles Chart and eventually being certified platinum. On 5 August, Seventeen’s digital song “Hit” was released, followed by their third full-length album “An Ode” on 16 September ,which sold over 700,000 units in the week of its debut.
Their second Japanese single entitled “Fallin’ Flower” came out on 1 April 2020, topping the Billboard Japan Hot 100 Chart. Seventeen’s most recent EP was released on 22 June, entitled “Heng:garæ”, and sold over one million copies in only seven days.
Love life and girlfriend
Dino hasn’t talked about any girls he might have dated, and it’s widely believed that this is due to Pledis Entertainment having put a dating ban on him and his colleagues, however, there are also rumors that he is currently in a relationship with Min Kyung noona, who is working at Pledis. Following the start of rumors, a video was uploaded onto the internet in which one can see Dino saying ‘I love you very much, too’, and blowing a kiss at the end. It is widely believed that Min had lost her ‘phone which someone found with the video of Dino on it, and uploaded it onto the internet – neither Dino nor Pledis Entertainment have commented on the rumors.
As of August 2020, Dino is single, possibly dating Min Kyung, but hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
Hobbies and interests
Dino likes to listen to both American and South Korean music, while his favorite musician is the late Michael Jackson, and his favorite two songs are “Beat It” and “Billie Jean”.
He likes to entertain people by making funny faces, telling jokes and doing random silly things.
Dino is keen on eating fruits and his favorites are grapes and apples – he also likes to eat sweets and his favorite is fruit yoghurt. His favorite dish is fried squid with spicy sauce.

Dino enjoys wearing casual clothes, and clothes that have a cherry blossom motive on them, as this is his favorite flower. His two favorite colors are white and blue.
In his spare time, he mostly enjoys doing nothing but watching variety shows on TV, with “Gag Concert” being his favorite.
He is a huge lover of animals with dinosaurs being his favorites, which is why he is using ‘Dino’ as his stage name.
